Tips for Searching for Print Books

Books held in physical form in the Library can be located using the library catalog.

Books of or about fairy tales may be in several different physical locations in the library, depending on the exact content and scholarly approach. These include:

  • GR 550+:  Folklore and Fairy Tales (from an anthropological perspective)
  • PN 3437:  Fairy Tales as a type of Fiction Literature (from a literary criticism perspective)
  • PQ (various numbers):  Literature originally written in Romance Languages
  • PR/PS (various numbers):  Literature originally written in English
  • PT (various numbers):  Literature originally written in German and Scandinavian Languages
  • PZ 8:  Fairy Tales as children's literature
  • Romig Room:  Juv Fiction & Juv 398.2:  Books for children (to exclude these from your catalog search results, select "Main Collection Books" under "Item Types" from the "Refine Your Search" sidebar on your search results page)

Tips for Searching for eBooks

You will get more precise results with fewer broken links if you search for ebooks directly in the two major ebook collections instead of using the "Quick Search" on the Library homepage.

You can use the "Subject" filters in the results sidebar to narrow down your results and exclude books that are collections of fairy tales rather than analyses and criticism.

The full text of ebooks can be accessed and searched directly in your web browser. For information about options for downloading ebooks, see our webpage.
